I have alway had a desire to support women and protect them from trauma. Also, I have always enjoyed a passion for childbirth and motherhood. I believe the childbearing year to be among the most profound and wonderful seasons of a woman's life. I learned from experience the value of compassionate, respectful support, and hired a doula for the birth of my third child. I describe that birth as a walk in the park compared to the other two. My husband and I later agreed that she was worth every penny we paid her!
I hold a Bachelor's degree in English education, with additional post graduate study in secondary education. My husband is a college professor at College of the Ozarks, a job he has enjoyed for over 20 years. I am a certified DONA doula, birth and postpartum, and the mother of three adult daughters. This past year, I became a grandmother to an adorable granddaughter. My hobbies lie in the areas of performing arts and handicrafts.
During my childbearing season, I experienced two unmedicated births and one with an epidural. One of my newborns had a brief stay in the NICU. I breastfed my children, on average, thirteen months each. I stayed home with my children for a season, and then worked part time as they became older. Once my youngest was in college, I began to explore what came next!
As I began to try out various jobs and activities, three unconnected people suggested that I might like being a doula. I thought, each time, "Yes! I would love that!" And so I looked into it and began my journey in January of 2020. Of course, the COVID epidemic meant several delays and a need for perseverance. Now, I am so grateful to have supported a large variety of beautiful women as they gave birth. I love watching each woman enjoy the mountaintops of the childbearing year while witnessing and supporting their challenges and successes. I can adamantly say that I love being a doula!
